In 2005 Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin, two women in Sweden studying Industrial Design at the University of Lund, had an idea for a new type of bicycle helmet that people would actually be happy to wear. After deciding that traditional helmets were not only uncomfortable and bulky, but also gave people unattractive mushroom heads, their concept and project for an invisible, inflatable, airbag helmet began.
They studied bike helmets, contacted head trauma specialists, and staged accidents to collect movement patterns and compared them to normal biking. It took them seven years, and then the Hövding invisible, inflatable helmet concept finally became a reality.
The Hövding helmets sell online for €399 {about $525 US dollars} which is on the high end when you compare the average price of traditional bike helmets that start at about $30. But what is the price of your life? I think Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin may have started this venture as a fashion or style concept, but what they’ve created is most definitely the safest helmet on the market today. And think about all those extreme sports enthusiasts and athletes whose careers oftentimes end in brain trauma and even death. Could this be the life-saving alternative?
Eu fique tão contente por encontrar algo inovador e futurista como esse novo acessório de desporto, o Hövding, que é um capacete airbag, com um pitada fashion criado por duas designers industriais que cansadas de ver os capacetes convencionais que são desconfortáveis e comprometem o visual, principalmente feminino, tiveram a genial ideia de criar um capacete/gola/airbag que é ativado mal a pessoa esteja a cair da bicicleta, é feito de um material resistente ao impacto, porém é mais confortável do que um capacete normal.
O grande inconveniente deste acessório giro e útil é o preço, pois custa 399€, enquanto que um normal ronda os 30€ e pode ser comprado em Hovding Helmet .
Eu não digo que é algo indispensável, mas ainda bem que existem criativos no mundo que pensam nessas soluções bonitas e incríveis, dando-nos uma alternativa para algo que há muito sempre foi do mesmo jeito.
